Suor Angelica with Center Stage Opera

Marci possesses a fluid timbre with a combination of artistic musicality and entrancing stage presence. The Muncie Star praised Marci for her portrayal of Donna Anna in Mozart's Don Giovanni as "Brilliant...and let it be known, this woman can sing."

"A gorgeous soprano whose every note was in line with the legato aria 'Voi lo sapete, o mamma', her acting ability was intense." (Lafayette Journal and Courier)

New Music Debut-

In Songs of Innocence the composer set William Blake’s collection of nineteen illustrated poems of the same name to music for soprano and piano. Blake’s poetry explores various aspects of childhood, primarily through an idyllic lens. He utilizes recurring motivic themes including joy, pastoral scenes, and sleep, each of which are mirrored musically. But Blake also subtly shows the vulnerability and naivety of those with an innocent state of mind. Darker themes such as child labor, abandonment, poverty, racism, religion, and death are also explored. Each of these motives are mirrored musically, and attention to their use may enhance your experience.

The composer originally set six of these poems for soprano Marci Jackson in 2009. “Over the years, several of the other poems kept calling to me that they needed to be set as well, but I was consumed with other projects. During the pandemic, I became a stay-at-home father for my two sons, during which I took a hiatus from composing. These works are very personal for me, as they serve as both an encapsulation of my time with my boys, and a springboard back into composing again.”

She is a fierce musical storyteller who wants to take the audience on a multi sensory journey in her creative recitals. She often brings other mediums into recital performance such as live artists painting during the performance, poetry, spoken word, re- enactors and more. Themes of these recent recital from 2020-today, were Dreams and Songs of the Civil War. Each took the listener on an emotional and tangible journey through time.

Previously, 2014 brought Marci the opportunity to sing new works by New Jersey native, Daniel Felsenfeld. His new piece entitled, She, After is an opera triptych, of which she sang two of the three parts. This October saw Marci commanding the one woman show in Cincinnati, OH with North American New Opera Works.

In the 2012-2013 season she made her role and company debut with Center Stage Opera as the title role in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, and later joined both Candid Concert Opera in their production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, singing the role of Second Lady and New Rochelle Opera as Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana.

The year prior brought the opportunity for Marci to return to Center Stage Opera singing the First Lady in their production of The Magic Flute.

Marci performed Santuzza with Lafayette Symphony Orchestra and was hailed as “a gorgeous soprano whose every note was in line with the legato aria ‘Voi lo sapete, o mamma,’ her acting ability was intense.” (Lafayette Journal and Courier)

Other past engagements include performances with Sugar Creek Symphony and Song as the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro, covering Tosca with Opera Las Vegas and Susannah with Des Moines Metro Opera and the undergraduate premiere of Mark Adamo’s Little Women, where she sang Jo March.

A champion of new works, Marci has debuted works by up and coming composers. She gave the world premiere of the cantata Madres, words and music written by Brazilian composer Luciana Mendes-Schulle.

In her free time she enjoys unwinding at her farm with her husband, Michael, and two children, Henry and Alice.

**Premiere Performance info**

November 16, 2024, Marci will be performing for the 1st time the pieces written for her by composer Daniel J. McIntosh. The pieces are set to William Blake’s “Songs of Innocence.” Never have all 19 poems been set to music before, so this is a performance NOT to be missed. Not only will it be sung, but the poem and art that Blake engraved will be projected during the performance.

Before and after the performance, there will be a special display of the pieces that have just been newly printed by Michael Phillips specifically for Marci and these performances. This is FIRST time since Blake printed them that all of the Songs of Innocence have been printed in his style of printing/engraving.
